Hot Summer Day in NYC

August 1, 2011

City Ice Pavilion Summer 2011

This weekend was hot.  My family had a wonderful time with friends at the beach on Saturday and decided to relax in NYC on Sunday.   We played tennis in the morning and then ventured over to the ice skating rink at City Ice Pavilion, where there is public skating from noon to 4:50pm on Sundays.  It was so amazing that we stayed there for several hours!

Ice Skating in the summer is a welcome change of pace to the hot summer sun.  We had packed lunch and admission cost $16 for 2 people.  We wore leggings and sleeveless shirts and there were never more than 12 people on the ice the entire time!  We felt free to move about the ice without the typical winter speedy demons that are usually on the ice during public skate sessions.

As much as we would have enjoyed checking out the brand new Highline in NYC, ice skating at City Ice Pavilion proved to be a “10”.

What did you do with your kids this weekend in NYC?

Cooking up an Awesome Dinner!

July 15, 2011

Whenever I go out to a restaurant and there are soft shell crabs on the menu I drop the menu and stop considering every other option for soft shell crabs are my absolute fave!

This morning I saw a big sign in Citarella’s window that said “Today’s Special: Soft Shell Crabs” so I marched over to the fish counter and happily purchased dinner for my family tonight.

I made sauted spinach, and an avocado, tomato, cucumber and cilantro salad. Soft shell crabs is the entree and my 5 year old will be so happy as well!

I even took a photo of the soft shell crabs.

Do you like soft shell crabs?  What is your fave summer entree?
