Hot Summer Day in NYC

August 1, 2011

City Ice Pavilion Summer 2011

This weekend was hot.  My family had a wonderful time with friends at the beach on Saturday and decided to relax in NYC on Sunday.   We played tennis in the morning and then ventured over to the ice skating rink at City Ice Pavilion, where there is public skating from noon to 4:50pm on Sundays.  It was so amazing that we stayed there for several hours!

Ice Skating in the summer is a welcome change of pace to the hot summer sun.  We had packed lunch and admission cost $16 for 2 people.  We wore leggings and sleeveless shirts and there were never more than 12 people on the ice the entire time!  We felt free to move about the ice without the typical winter speedy demons that are usually on the ice during public skate sessions.

As much as we would have enjoyed checking out the brand new Highline in NYC, ice skating at City Ice Pavilion proved to be a “10”.

What did you do with your kids this weekend in NYC?

Visiting Day

July 14, 2011

Today was my first day camp visiting day as a parent.  I have DVD’s from my visiting days at Camp Mohawk many moons ago,  featuring me and my friends dancing and doing gymnastics underneath the gymnastic tent. My parents definitely spent several hours at my visiting day when I attended camp as a 5 and 6 years old.

Today I watched instructional swim and gymnastics before driving back to NYC.

Visiting day was fun, but my daughter had separation anxiety.  I know this happens at sleepaway camp and can be tricky for families at departure time.

Do you think visiting day is more helpful or harmful to your child’s summer at sleepaway camp?
